Overview

Courting Empowerment” is our name for the educational and support services that we design intentionally and specifically to support nonlawyers who are representing themselves in court. We like the “empowerment” part of the name because we’re confident that competent and informed self-representation will lead to feelings of confidence and empowerment in other areas of life. Our educational and support services are organized into three groups: webinars, writing and editing, and coaching packages. These offerings are dynamic and subject to change in response to our clients’ and readers’ requests and needs.

Webinars
  • Open Group webinars are placed on the public calendar and announced on social media. Participation is via web (camera use is not necessary) or via telephone.
  • Private Group webinars are similar to Open Group but are not open to the public and have a required minimum of three paid participants. Benefits include custom scheduling and familiarity among participants, which can create an environment more conducive to comments and questions.
  • Single (one-on-one) Session webinars are just that: a single participant and the  instructor. The cost is a bit higher, but benefits include customized scheduling and a relaxed environment for discussions.
Writing and Editing
  • Legal research & writing guides and templates customized for your jurisdiction
  • Copy editing: checking your writing for grammar, spelling, and punctuation errors, consistency (e.g., for tense, pronoun use, abbreviated references, etc.), as well as sentence structure and word choice for clarity and conciseness
  • Proofreading: final review to check for typos and minor grammar and punctuation errors in a document that already has been copy-edited
  • Formatting: placing your finished writings in their proper formats (e.g., fonts, page numbering, etc.) for submission to your court

Customized writing and editing packages are available.
